back to my hometown (detail)

We just accumulate

I started this piece while visiting my dad in the hospital last fall. I had just started using ALVIN® TechLiner Technical Drawing Markers (0.1mm). I picked the pen up on a whim at ASW. I was immediately impressed with how well the pen worked. Not bad for $2.02. I was also listening to Joe Jackson and Kate Bush a lot around this time. I like the bit in his song “back to my hometown” where he sings about never leaving the past behind and how we just accumulate – and how as adults we end up with piles of bills, receipts and credit cards, and this longing to go back to the past creeps in, but everything has changed.

I scanned the completed original and made some prints on my 3880. A few months later I cut the original piece into several smaller 5″ x 5″ squares for two of my submissions for the Catalyst Boxcarts show. The rest of the original drawing was either discarded, or if the scrap was large enough or worth recycling in a future piece, I saved it.
